Delhi Police Arrests PG Operator Sudhanshu in Satya Niketan Collapse

A five-storey building in Satya Niketan near Delhi University's South Campus collapsed on Sunday, killing seven people and injuring five others. The building, which housed a boys' paying guest (PG) accommodation, was being operated by Sudhanshu and Shubham Tyagi under the name 'Hostel Daze'.

The Delhi Police investigation has taken a new turn with the emergence of two new names, Mahesh Bansal and Shubham Tyagi, in connection with the property. Mahesh Bansal, son of the property's owner Hariram Bansal, told investigators that the building had been leased to Sudhanshu and Shubham Tyagi in August 2025.

Sudhanshu has been arrested by the police, while further investigation into the collapse is underway. The building was reportedly several decades old and had a persistent water seepage problem in the basement. Investigators have also found that the structure allegedly did not have columns and beams, raising further questions about its structural safety.

The police have already arrested 81-year-old Hariram Gupta, his 75-year-old wife Urmila Gupta, and their 52-year-old son Mahesh Gupta in connection with the building collapse. While Hariram was initially identified as the owner, police later found through documents that Urmila Gupta was the owner of the property.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended South Zone Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar and four engineers pending disciplinary proceedings. The civic administration has taken action following the deadly collapse.
