UP Sees 241% Jump In EV Subsidy Approvals

The Uttar Pradesh government's Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy-2022 is yielding positive results, with a significant increase in electric vehicle adoption in the state. In the financial year 2025-26, the number of applications approved for EV subsidies in Uttar Pradesh rose by 241 percent compared to the previous year.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department, a total of 86,489 electric vehicle subsidy applications have been approved so far, with payments made for over 43,000 vehicles. The state's share in the total electric vehicles sold across the country has reached 18 percent, and the government aims to increase this to 30 percent in the near future.

The EV Subsidy Scheme, operated by the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department, has approved applications for various categories of electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers, e-buses, and e-goods carriers. The highest demand has been for electric two-wheelers, with 61,417 subsidy applications approved, followed by 24,959 electric four-wheelers, 104 e-goods carriers, and 9 e-buses.

The state government's efforts to promote electric vehicle adoption are also reflected in the expansion of charging infrastructure. Over the past five years, 2,316 electric vehicle charging stations have been established across Uttar Pradesh, including 540 fast chargers and 1,776 slow chargers. However, experts estimate that nearly 38,000 charging stations will be required to meet future demand, prompting the government to develop new charging stations under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The impact of the state government's EV policy is visible not only in Uttar Pradesh but also at the national level. According to the NITI Aayog's 2024 report, Uttar Pradesh accounts for approximately 18 percent of all electric vehicles sold across the country. The state government and experts believe that the new subsidy arrangement of Rs 440 crore could increase this share to 25-30 percent over the next two years.

The number of electric vehicles in Uttar Pradesh has now crossed 15 lakh, with the state witnessing a continuous rise in registrations and a growing interest in electric vehicles. The digital and transparent subsidy distribution system has also contributed to the state's position as a leading EV state in the country.

The Uttar Pradesh government's initiatives to promote electric vehicle adoption are expected to have a positive impact on the environment and the state's economy. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, the state is likely to see significant investments in the EV sector, creating new job opportunities and contributing to the state's growth.

In conclusion, the surge in EV subsidy approvals in Uttar Pradesh is a significant development, reflecting the state's commitment to promoting electric vehicle adoption and reducing its carbon footprint. As the state continues to expand its charging infrastructure and promote EV adoption, it is likely to emerge as a leader in the EV sector in the country.

The state's progress in EV adoption is also expected to have a positive impact on the country's efforts to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and achieve its climate goals. With the government's continued support and investment in the EV sector, Uttar Pradesh is poised to play a significant role in India's transition to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation system.
