UP to Develop 10 Textile Parks, PM MITRA Hub

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has unveiled a comprehensive plan to develop Uttar Pradesh as a global textile hub. The state aims to create a robust textile ecosystem, leveraging its rich heritage, skilled workforce, and vast market.

The announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony of the two-day UP Textiles Conclave-2026 in Lucknow. CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the need to develop the entire value chain in the state, from fiber to yarn, yarn to fabric, fabric to garment, and garment to brand.

The state government has signed MoUs for new investment proposals worth Rs 5,196 crore in the textile sector. Additionally, Letters of Comfort worth Rs 163 crore and a subsidy of Rs 60 crore were distributed to support the industry. The UP Tek Mitra Portal was also launched, and the Hathkargha Bunakar Samriddhi Yojana was inaugurated.

Uttar Pradesh has a long history of textile production, with references to silk textiles in Vedic literature, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata. The state is home to 2 lakh handloom and over 5 lakh powerloom weavers, making it a significant contributor to the country's textile industry.

The state ranks third in the country in fabric manufacturing, with a 13-14 percent share in total fabric production. Over the last six years, UP's exports of textiles, garments, and handicrafts have increased by around 56 percent, making it the fourth-largest exporting state in the country.

CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the state's commitment to contributing to the national resolve of achieving a USD 350 billion textile and apparel economy and USD 100 billion in exports by 2030. The state plans to develop 10 textile parks and a PM MITRA hub to support the industry.

The One District One Product (ODOP) scheme has helped textile and handloom products from over 35 districts receive a new identity, and 17 textile products have received GI tags. Self-help groups have also enabled lakhs of women to become self-reliant by joining the sector.

The state's young workforce is expected to play a crucial role in taking the textile sector to new heights. With its rich heritage, skilled workforce, and vast market, Uttar Pradesh is poised to become a significant player in the global textile industry.
