India and Indonesia have signed significant agreements for the supply of BrahMos missiles and Astra air-to-air missiles to the Indonesian military. The deals were finalized during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Indonesia, marking a major boost to the domestic defence industry.

The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and the Astra beyond-visual-range missile are both indigenously developed by India. The Astra missile is designed to track and destroy highly manoeuvrable enemy aircraft. In addition to the missile deals, India is also likely to provide Indonesia with additional batteries of the BrahMos missile.

Prime Minister Modi stated that the growing trust between the two countries is strengthening their defence, security, and maritime cooperation. He emphasized the importance of enhancing defence exchanges, disaster management, and industrial cooperation. The two countries also finalized a framework for maritime safety and security cooperation.

The agreements signed during PM Modi's visit include a total of 20 outcomes, covering various areas such as defence, security, maritime cooperation, and industrial collaboration. India and Indonesia also inked an agreement on minerals and technologies for the steel supply chain, aiming to strengthen the critical mineral supply chain.

Furthermore, India is expected to support the development of Indonesia-specific Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), extending its poll technology expertise to the Southeast Asian nation. PM Modi also announced that India's high-quality and affordable medicines will be more easily accessible to Indonesian citizens, and India will contribute to the capacity building of doctors and healthcare workers in Indonesia.

During the visit, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conferred the country's highest honour, the 'Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia', upon PM Modi. The honour is a testament to the strengthening strategic ties between India and Indonesia.

The visit marks the first leg of PM Modi's three-nation tour, and the agreements signed are expected to have a significant impact on the bilateral relationship between India and Indonesia. The deals demonstrate India's growing influence in the region and its commitment to strengthening its defence and security cooperation with key partners.

The visit has set a positive tone for future collaborations, and the outcomes of the agreements are expected to benefit both countries in the long run.

In terms of the impact on India, the deals are expected to provide a significant boost to the domestic defence industry, with the export of BrahMos and Astra missiles to Indonesia. The agreements also demonstrate India's capabilities in developing and manufacturing high-tech defence equipment, which could lead to further export opportunities in the future.
