Thousands Join Shiva Processions in MP on Last Shravan Somvar

On the last Monday of Shravan, thousands of devotees gathered in various cities across Madhya Pradesh to participate in grand Shiva processions and Kanwar Yatras.

In Mandsaur, the royal procession of Lord Pashupatinath began from the banks of the Shivna river, where the silver eight-faced idol was worshipped and placed on a decorated chariot. The procession was accompanied by drums, 'akharas', and tableaux, and organisations distributed 'prasad', food, water, tea, and fruits to devotees.

MP Sudhir Gupta, municipal council president Ramadevi Gurjar, collector Divyank Singh, and superintendent of police Vinod Kumar were among the public representatives and officials who performed 'aarti' and pulled the chariot. After the procession passed, MLA Vipin Jain and his supporters, along with municipal sanitation workers, swept the route and collected plastic and other waste, spreading a message of cleanliness along with faith.

In Ratlam, the Garh Kailash Seva Samiti’s royal procession was inaugurated by collector Ajay Katesaria and SP Amit Kumar, who performed worship and 'aarti' at Garh Kailash Temple and lifted the deity’s palanquin. Over 5,000 devotees joined the Lord Birsa Munda Kawad Yatra from Dhanora to Gupteshwar Mahadev in Sendhwa, organised by the Scheduled Tribe Front of Barwani and Team Rallash Senani.

In Bagh, the 34th annual Kawad Yatra received a grand welcome, with 2,100 devotees from 67 villages participating. The pilgrims carried Narmada water from Meghnath Ghat, covering about 40 kilometres, and offered it at temples in their villages after returning.

The Shri Brahmin Swarnakar Samaj Youth Organisation in Kukshi organised its first grand Kanwar Yatra, with around 170 devotees participating. The Sunderkand Mitra Mandal in Khetia began its annual Kavad Yatra to Omkareshwar, with over 25 pilgrims participating on foot.

These processions and yatra marked the finale of Shravan, with devotees seeking regional peace, prosperity, good rainfall, and agricultural growth. The events promoted unity, social participation, and religious faith among the participants.
