CBN Seizes 18.64 Kg Heroin In UP

The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has seized 18.64 kg of crude heroin in two operations near Lucknow and Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. The contraband originated from the northeastern region and was being trafficked for consumption in Uttar Pradesh.

The CBN laid a cordon along the Sultanpur–Lucknow Highway on the intervening night of August 20–21, 2026, after receiving specific inputs about the movement of drugs from the Northeast to Lucknow. The team intercepted an Assam-registered SUV near Lucknow on August 21. Although the vehicle was found empty and the occupants claimed innocence, operational officers grew suspicious when the vehicle’s occupants disclosed that they had refuelled four times within a span of just 500 km.

A physical tapping test of the fuel tank detected a hollow acoustic anomaly. At the CBN office in Lucknow, technical assistance was used to dismantle the tank, revealing a specially fabricated compartment containing 25 waterproof packages with 16.46 kg of crude heroin.

In a separate operation, teams tracked a heavy truck carrying contraband along the Siliguri–Lucknow corridor. The vehicle was intercepted near Barabanki, where a physical search led to the recovery of 2.16 kg of crude heroin. One suspect was arrested.

All three suspects have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The two transport vehicles and the entire consignment have been confiscated. The seizure is a significant blow to the inter-state trafficking network, which was supplying heroin to Uttar Pradesh from the northeastern region.

The northeastern region has been a known hub for drug trafficking, with several cases of heroin and other narcotics being seized in the region. The CBN has been actively tracking and intercepting drug consignments, and this latest seizure is a testament to their efforts.

The Uttar Pradesh government has also been taking steps to combat drug trafficking in the state. The seizure of such a large consignment of heroin is a significant achievement and will help to reduce the supply of narcotics in the state.

The CBN's actions are a part of a larger effort to combat drug trafficking in India. The agency has been working closely with state governments and other law enforcement agencies to track and intercept drug consignments.

The seizure of 18.64 kg of crude heroin is a significant achievement and will help to reduce the supply of narcotics in Uttar Pradesh. It also highlights the need for continued efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

In conclusion, the CBN's seizure of 18.64 kg of crude heroin in Uttar Pradesh is a significant blow to the inter-state trafficking network. The agency's efforts to combat drug trafficking are ongoing, and this latest seizure is a testament to their dedication and hard work.

The impact of this seizure will be felt in the coming days, as the supply of narcotics in Uttar Pradesh is reduced. The CBN's actions will also serve as a deterrent to other drug traffickers, who will think twice before attempting to smuggle narcotics into the state.

Overall, the seizure of 18.64 kg of crude heroin is a significant achievement and a major step forward in the fight against drug trafficking in India.
